Rena Malkofsky-Berger

4th-6th Math and 5th & 6th Science

Rena, her husband Josh, and their three children, Jason, Hannah and Jeffrey, left the Silicon Valley of Northern California, in 2008, to move to Nashville, where Josh grew up. In California, Rena taught elementary school in Palo Alto and San Jose California, was a mentor teacher and gave workshops on writing across the curriculum and using problem solving in math, among other topics. She also wrote for a national Parent/Teacher Newsletter. Once in Nashville, she was selected to become a Common Core Mathematics Coach for the state of Tennessee, where she helped to train over 2,000 teachers to teach to the new standards. She taught the Math Methods class and supervised undergraduate and graduate student teachers at Vanderbilt University’s teacher education program, was a Math Coach at Kenrose Elementary School in Williamson County, and now loves being immersed in math and science at Akiva. She loves the Akiva community, working with incredibly talented colleagues and values the freedom and support given to Akiva teachers. In her spare time, Rena is an avid cook (especially desserts), she reads and spends as much time as she can at all of her children’s sporting and other events.
