Ellen Cloyd is South Carolina born and raised. She went to Wofford College in Spartanburg for her undergraduate studies. While at Wofford, she discovered her love for learning about other cultures and religions, thus becoming a religion major.

After Wofford, she worked for the SC Senate for two years. Shortly after, she realized that she wanted to work with children.  She applied for, and was accepted into the Masters of Art in Teaching program at Converse College. She completed her Masters in Early Childhood Education in 2013. Shortly after, she accepted a fifth grade position at Dutch Fork Elementary School, and taught there for two years.

Ellen is a foodie. She is an adventurous eater who enjoys trying out new recipes and foods from around the world. The mountains are Ellen’s place, because of this, she is a fan of hiking and being outdoors! She grew up playing the violin and as a result is a fan of live music of all genres! She absolutely loves to travel and explore new places. The combination of a love of travel and teaching took her to China summer of 2014 to teach English.

This is her 3rd year as a second grade teacher at Akiva and she loves the curiosity and creative thinking that Akiva students bring to the classroom every day.
