OPPORTUNITIES FOR GIVING
There are many ways you can help bridge the gap between the price of tuition and the real cost of educating a child.
TRANSFER YOUR IRA TO AKIVA
Donors who have money in traditional or Roth IRAs and who are over 70½ years of age are allowed to donate up to $100,000 of this money to Akiva tax free. This is a great way to maximize your donation while avoiding income taxes on the money that you transfer to Akiva from an IRA. Please contact Bob Berk at Akiva if you are interested — this special provision in the tax law expires at the end of 2007. We invite you to speak with your tax professional about this option — or we would be happy to have you speak with one of ours.
TRANSFER SECURITIES INTO AKIVA’S STOCK ACCOUNT
For many donors this is a great way to avoid paying taxes on your stock appreciation. We are happy to walk you through the process. Your stock broker can easily assist you with the details.
ESTATE BEQUEST OPTIONS
Make a Bequest in Your Will
People often designate Akiva in their wills — either through a fixed gift amount or a percentage of the estate. Please let us know if you have done so, or if you would like help setting up your will to include Akiva.
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUST
A charitable remainder trust can enable you to simultaneously make a charitable gift, enjoy a tax deduction, remove taxable assets from your estate and generate income for yourself, your family, or anyone else you choose — for life, or for a specified period. Upon your death and/or the death of all other beneficiaries, the remaining assets in the trust go to the charity(ies) you named.
CHARITABLE LEAD TRUST
A charitable lead trust is designed to reduce beneficiaries’ taxable income by first donating a portion of the trust’s income to charities and then, after a specified period of time, transferring the remainder of the trust to the beneficiaries.
ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
Please don’t forget about our annual campaign. During the 2007 – 2008 school year, Akiva will give away over $380,000 in financial aid. Your continued support of our annual campaign — even while contributing to our endowment efforts — will allow us to continue to provide the excellent education for which we have become known.
CONSULTATIONS AVAILABLE
While many of our donors have their own financial advisors, we are happy to help you consult with an expert in the field to help you decide on the appropriate vehicle through which you can support Akiva. We work closely with the professionals at the Jewish Foundation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee, however, we are also happy to bring in outside experts to assist you in making the right choice.
