Akiva Cares

Akiva Cares will meet on Wednesdays from 3:45 until 4:45 unless otherwise noted on the Akiva Cares calendar. We will again be traveling to local Senior Centers  twice A month, as well as the local Refugee Center bi-monthly.  We will spend our time at school planning out and implementing various community service projects as well as our annual talent show.  Due to the nature of Akiva Cares, students may only join first quarter, and must make a year-long commitment.  We look forward to another great year of service! This club will be lead by Mrs. Worthington.

Cross Country

Join Coach Worthington and Coach Hopkins for another great season of Akiva Cross Country.  Cross Country will meet once a week on Mondays from 3:45 until 4:30.  We will be competing in one meet on September 13th at Overbrook School .  We will finish our season with an Akiva Fun Run, where our members will compete against parents and Akvia faculty!  It should be another great year!!!
Meets Monday until 4:30, All Grades, $75.00


Dance Club

This club will be a spirit pom-pom squad for Akiva. The students will go to fun "meets" with other elementary age squads and show their routines. They will learn hip hop dance and tumbling. At the end of each quarter they will do a recital and show what they have learned. Students will also learn the basics of learning, teaching and choreographing routines of their own. This club will encourage school spirit, team work and a sense of community with other local school age kids. Maximum of 12 students. This club will be lead by Mrs. Amy Hodes.
Meets Thursday until 4:45, All Grades, $80.00 or $200.00 family max

Nachon!!

Come join Mrs. Sass for Nachon! "Nachon!" will be Akiva's first-ever official jamband! Anyone who plays ANYTHING (piano,drums,guitar,flute,recorder,violin,cello,vocalists, etc) may come for a fun hour where we will divide our time between:
1)learning to play and perform simple 3-chord Hebrew and English rock tunes!
2)working to become the backup band for in-school and off-site Sababa performances!
3)exploring writing and performing our own songs!

News Team

Lights, camera, action! Mrs. Sissel needs YOU to join the Akiva News Network. Students will learn to write news stories, conduct interviews, edit video, operate our teleprompter, eMac and video camera and more
Meets Mondays until 4:30, limit 8 students per quarter, Grades 5-6, $60.00


Sababa

Akiva’s newest musical group is back and better than ever! Come rock with us as we learn hip Jewish songs. We will put on an amazing performance for our families, friends and community institutions. This club will be lead by Mrs. Sass and Mrs. Amy Newell.
Meets Tuesday until 4:20, All Grades, $60.00


Science Club with Mr. Bond

Keith Trehy, formerly the “Mad Science guy”, will be offering a science club for the final quarter. If your child loves science, then this is the club for them. They will do the following activities:
DIGESTION: Build a model digestive system and simulate what happens to your food.
WORMS/RECYCLING: Yes, real live worms!
DNA: Build a strand of DNA and swap strands to see what the offspring would look like!
CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION: kids map their own footprints and make toothmolds
ELECTRICITY: kids use our circuit boards to light bulbs, turn motors and set off alarms
SLIME: need I say more?
EARTHQUAKES: kids make model tectonic plates and simulate an earthquake
MINERALS: kids identify some minerals and their characteristics, and pan for gold!
ROCKETS: Build'em/Decorate'em/Launch'em/Lose'em/Weep over'em
