Akiva Community Day School is dedicated to providing an unparalleled learning experience integrating a superior general academic and Judaic studies education in a personal, child-centered environment. Our school represents a unique cross-section of families from the Nashville Jewish community, representing Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox affiliations among our students and our Board of Directors. While deeply committed to our shared Jewish heritage, we are not affiliated with any one branch of Judaism, and we respect each family’s personal decisions regarding religious observance. Our graduates are well-prepared learners who have discovered the treasures of our common Jewish heritage and are ready for further academic challenges.
About Akiva Community Day School
Akiva Community Day School was founded in 1954 as a small traditional day school. In the 1990s, the Board of Directors embarked on a new path to develop an unparalleled integrated general academic and Judaic studies program with appeal across the full spectrum of our shared Jewish community. With the move to our outstanding new facility in 1999, our Board’s vision of making Akiva not only a Jewish school but also an excellent academic institution competitive with Nashville’s other high level private grade schools was realized. Akiva Community Day School’s new paradigm focuses on three areas:

- An environment in which each student can enthusiastically learn about his or her Jewish heritage and develop his or her identity
We have a challenging curriculum that promotes understanding and develops essential language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies skills, enhanced and extended through art, music, physical education, and drama. Our students also learn about the richness and diversity of our Jewish tradition. Our goal is that our students develop personal values: enthusiasm for learning, lifelong commitment to the Jewish community, and respect for others.
Our alumni include graduates who have gone on to be successful physicians, lawyers, investment bankers, businessmen, and engineers, as well as rabbis and homemakers. Many of our alumni are leaders in their Jewish communities – many of them here in Nashville – and are raising the next generations of Jewish children. All of our student have at least one parent who is Jewish.
